Colfax

Located in the southeastern portion of Washington State, Colfax is in the heart of the area known as the Palouse. Characterized by rolling hills and tall pines, the Palouse is some of the most fertile farmland in the country.

Colfax is the county seat of Whitman County, and has its own city hall, fire and police departments, a 54-bed hospital, library, local newspaper, radio stations and county courthouse.

Approximately 3,000 people call Colfax home, making it a small, friendly, and active community. Schools in Colfax offer students a quality education. In a smaller community such as Colfax, young people have an opportunity to shine, receiving a high degree of recognition for both academic and athletic efforts.

Senior citizens are also drawn to Colfax because of its comfortable retirement facilities and friendly, small-town atmosphere. Colfax offers a wide range of social programs, home delivery needs, transportation, household help and excellent health services.

Outdoor activities include a beautiful 9-hole golf course along the Palouse River, open to the public seven days a week. Colfax also has four parks for residents and visitors to enjoy a picnic or just relax and unwind. The largest, Schmuck Park, includes a covered shelter, cooking units, playground equipment, swimming pool and tennis courts.

Colfax is also minutes away from the Snake River, which offers boating, moorage, fishing, cruising and camping.
