LeMaster Daniels's Bellevue office helps Camp Korey raise $1.1 million

They cleaned. They washed dishes. They got up to their elbows in really, really good wine.

And so the LD Bellevue volunteers at thesecond annual Wine Weekend event, sponsored by Washington Wines Festival and benefitting Camp Korey and the Washington Wine Education Foundation, helped make the event a success—and raise more than $1.1 million.

Running July 10 - July 12, the event centered on gourmet food, silent and live auctions, and the wines from many local wineries. About 60 LeMaster Daniel volunteers (both employees and friends and family members) helped out in numerous ways throughout the weekend, including manning the hospitality desk, setting up for the large lunch and dinner meals, and helping with the live auction.

Camp Korey, a free of charge and medically supervised camp, serves seriously ill children at their Carnation Farm location in Carnation, Wash. Tim Rose, brother of event chair Jim Rose, founded the camp after his son, Korey, passed away in 2004 at the age of 18 after battling bone cancer.

“Once again, Wine Weekend has succeeded in bringing together the best of Washington’s wine culture and top chefs for a cause close to everyone’s hearts — kids,” Jim said.

The event boasted a live performance from folk legend Carole King. The singer paid tributes to Korey Rose and her late friend Paul Newman. As both an actor and philanthropist, Newman founded the Association of Hole in the Wall Camps, a group that supports places like Camp Korey in their mission to support and serve children with life-threatening diseases.

Judi Vrooman, a manager in our Bellevue office, organized the LeMaster Daniels volunteers for both Wine Weekend and “Make a Difference Day” in October. At that event, LD volunteers painted 16 dorm rooms for the campers.

“The mission, and the compelling story of how this camp came to be, is something that we are all touched by,” Judi said.“The Wine Weekend is the main fundraiser for the camp so we know that we have really made a difference.”
