LeMaster Daniels accountant wins top WSCPA award

Spokane Staff Accountant Kristen Guzman honored by statewide organization

Kristen receives the “2009-2010 New Professional of the Year” award from the WSCPA

We have an award-winner in our midst! Spokane Staff Accountant Kristen Guzman recently received a special award from the Washington Society of Certified Public Accountants (WSCPA). Named the 2009-2010 New Professional of the Year, Kristen was honored for her leadership and commitment toward the development of the Spokane New Professional’s Committee.

Four senior members of the WSCPA came to present Kristen’s award—two of those members even flew in from Bellevue for the occasion.

Kimberly Scott, director of member services for the WSCPA, prepared these remarks for the presentation:

"Kristen has been involved with the WSCPA since college as a leader in her Beta Alpha Psi chapter, and soon became involved in the WSCPA financial literacy program. Kristen has authored articles for the WSCPA on her financial literacy efforts, as well as why students should become engaged with their professional society.

In the Puget Sound area in 2006, a committee of new professionals emerged to help better engage students and CPAs licensed 10 years or less. When we decided to mirror the committee on the east side of the state, we knew Kristen would be one of the first members we needed to reach out to. Kristen stepped in to help from the very beginning and is currently the committee Chair.

Kristen has shown leadership in her communication with her peers and with fellow WSCPA volunteer leaders. She makes a great impression and is well respected."

Spokane COO Harley Reckord, WSCPA Financial Literacy Program Manager Amy O'Donnell, WSCPA Board of Directors Member Lisa Sunderman, Kristen Guzman, WSCPA Spokane Chapter Past Chair Linda Shrope, and WSCPA Director of Member Services Kimberly Scott.
