Glover wrote he had been "enchanted... overwhelmed...with the beauty and grandeur of everything." Glover is widely considered the visionary behind the formation of a city that at one point grew faster than any other in the West. He bought the rights to land and a sawmill on the banks of the river that flows through town and set up shop serving the local Indian population. His timing could not have been better: When silver and lead deposits were found in nearby North Idaho and Canada's British Columbia, Glover and other Spokane business owners profited handsomely. Today, with its population of 189,200, Spokane is the largest community between Seattle and Minneapolis. It is the heart and trading center of a vast region including Eastern Washington, North Idaho and Western Montana. Although its economy has long been resource-based, it is in transition, with growing high-tech and biotech segments. A day's drive will fetch any one of 75 lakes and the area is dotted with ski hills. Sports-lovers enjoy outstanding hunting and fishing and boating-of both the power and sail varieties-captures the enthusiasm of many area residents. The history of LeMaster Daniels is closely tied to the history of Spokane. The city and the company grew up together and we are proud to have played a role in its development. < Back to Locations |
