Audit readiness
Organize evidence around the assertions a reviewer needs to test, rather than around a growing pile of documents.
Agree the boundaries
Define the reporting entity, period, accounting framework and intended users. Map significant balances to the processes that create them. A clear boundary helps keep the evidence request focused and prevents separate teams from preparing conflicting versions of the same schedule.
Follow the evidence
Connect supporting schedules to the trial balance and retain the documents behind material movements. Record the preparer, review date and unresolved questions. Evidence should be understandable to someone who was not present when a transaction took place.
Resolve before reporting
Maintain one issue list with accountable owners and target dates. Distinguish adjustments from disclosure questions and control observations. Read the complete statements together before release so that accounting policies, numbers and narrative remain consistent.
